I also know for a fact that people have installed a copy of standalone Excel 2016 AFTER installing an Office 365/2016 bundle. They did this to get the 'Business Intelligence' feature that was (IMHO mistakenly) limited to a few specific Office 'business' bundles, excluding 'consumer' and student versions (so you couldn't use/learn BI at home or school).
